Oregon JJIS
INTRODUCTION
Oregon JJIS (Juvenile Justice Information System) seamlessly combines technology and social welfare to safeguard at-risk children and youth. This system streamlines juvenile justice processes and provides a dynamic platform for monitoring their well-being. Acting as a unifying force, JJIS brings together agencies, professionals, and stakeholders for efficient communication and collaborative support delivery. Beyond a tool, JJIS is a beacon of hope, creating a safer environment for youth, fostering growth and development. The Project sat on the pre-existing in-house Low-Code platform, "Casecloud.ai," designed for diverse products within the realm of information architecture. I was also responsible for a lot of development on the CaseCloud.ai platform as well.
CHALLENGE
The challenge revolved around facilitating users' seamless access to juvenile information, prioritizing efficiency and time savings. Our objective was to provide a fully immersive experience, catering to diverse needs across various departments within the system. The key goals were to ensure a highly accessible, intuitive, and dependable user interface (UI).
MY CONTRIBUTION
In shaping the UI screens and icons for the Oregon Juvenile Justice Information System (JJIS), my focus centered on constructing a user-friendly interface that seamlessly merged cutting-edge technology with the distinctive demands of the juvenile justice system. Throughout this project, I navigated a significant challenge arising from its low-code nature, which, while streamlining development, imposed constraints on fully expressing my creative vision for the UI. Undaunted, I addressed this hurdle with meticulous attention to detail, resulting in the creation of intuitive screens that streamlined complex processes, ensuring efficiency and ease of use for professionals and stakeholders. The purposeful design of over 100 icons played a pivotal role in enhancing the overall user experience, each crafted to be visually clear and meaningful. Despite these challenges, my commitment to delivering a seamlessly integrated and user-friendly system persisted, showcasing adaptability in overcoming constraints.
TASK BREAKDOWN
UI Design
Leveraging my expertise in user interface design and a deep understanding of Oregon JJIS requirements, I meticulously crafted visually appealing and highly functional UI screens based on the sketches and wireframes provided to me. Through an iterative design process, I ensured that each screen not only met project specifications but also prioritized user experience and accessibility. The thoughtfully designed UI elements I introduced played a crucial role in presenting our proposal as a standout solution, ultimately leading to the successful acquisition of the Oregon JJIS project.
Compilation of screens I've contributed to
Incorporating user research and field studies played a crucial role in our design process, offering invaluable insights into user needs and preferences. Through surveys and one-on-one interviews, our team gathered significant information on how individuals engage with the platform, providing a foundation for informed enhancements to the overall design. This method of data collection empowered us to directly obtain valuable insights from our target audience, facilitating the development of user personas that accurately encapsulate their needs, preferences, and behaviors.
Several key segments within the web application
We initiated the process by meticulously outlining each pathway and route available to users within the app. Leveraging information architecture, we delineated the hierarchy, navigation, features, and interactions inherent in the application. Subsequently, a design system was crafted, encompassing a comprehensive set of guidelines and assets. This system serves the dual purpose of ensuring design consistency and expediting development through the establishment of standards for both visual and interactive elements forging a user-friendly and aesthetically pleasing product.

Design System
In the context of this specific project, the implemented design adopted a foundational approach, primarily influenced by the constraints imposed by the project's reliance on a low-code platform. The intricacies of design decisions were often navigated with a consideration for the inherent challenges associated with seamless implementation. Despite these limitations, the design system proved to be instrumental in optimizing the overall design effort significantly. It effectively served as a guiding framework, streamlining the decision-making process and ensuring that even within the constraints of a low-code environment, the end result was both functional and aesthetically cohesive.

Responsive Design
While designing the UI screens for the Oregon Juvenile Justice Information System (OJJIS) project, a critical aspect of my approach was ensuring responsiveness across various devices and screen sizes. Recognizing the diverse ways in which users access the system, I implemented a responsive design strategy that seamlessly adapted to different platforms, including desktops, tablets, and mobile devices. Considerations were made to prioritize clarity and functionality, ensuring that the user interface remained intuitive and accessible regardless of the screen dimensions. Careful attention was given to breakpoints, flexible grid systems, and fluid layouts to guarantee a consistent and user-friendly experience. By prioritizing responsiveness in the UI design, we aimed to enhance accessibility for all OJJIS users, fostering a more inclusive and efficient digital environment for juvenile justice information management.

Icon Design
I successfully designed over 100 icons for the Oregon Juvenile Justice Information System (OJJIS). Leveraging my creative skills and attention to detail, I meticulously crafted a diverse set of icons tailored to enhance the visual representation and user experience of the OJJIS platform. Through a collaborative process with the project team, I ensured that each icon seamlessly integrated with the system's interface while maintaining a cohesive and intuitive design language. This extensive collection of icons serves to improve navigation, accessibility, and overall aesthetics within the OJJIS, contributing to a more user-friendly and visually cohesive digital environment.
